Delete your account

You can delete your Wisteria account at any time, from the app or by email. In the app it takes effect immediately, and you choose what happens to photos you sent in chats. We will not ask you why.

In the app

Open Wisteria and go to Settings — the gear on the You tab — then Account → Download or delete your data → Delete my account. You type DELETE to confirm. Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone. Your profile and content come down from Wisteria at once, and the last copies are cleared from our backups within 35 days.

If you want a copy of your information first, Download my data is on the same screen.

By email, without the app

If you no longer have the app, email admin@wisteriasocial.com from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We act only on a request that comes from that address, so nobody else can delete your account. We confirm within 7 days and complete the deletion within 30.

What is erased right away

  • Your profile, legal name, date of birth and other identity details
  • Your profile photos, post photos and posts, including the stored image files
  • Your likes and other activity
  • Every signed-in device and session — you are signed out everywhere at once
  • Your phone number, which is released so it can be used again
  • Our copy of your tickets and check-ins

Erased means erased — not hidden, not deactivated.

Photos you sent in chats

When you delete your account, you choose one of two things:

  • Leave them in the chats. The people you talked to keep the photos you sent them.
  • Delete them from every chat. Each photo you sent is removed for everyone, including from our chat provider’s storage; a photo in a reported conversation goes once that case closes.

It is your choice because a photo you sent someone is both yours and part of a conversation you shared. Neither answer is wrong, so we ask rather than decide.

What stays, and why

  • Messages you wrote — they stay in the other person’s copy of the conversation, shown as from “A member”, with nothing that identifies you. A conversation belongs to both people in it. Comments you left on other people’s posts stay too.
  • What the App Store or Google Play charged you — seven years, because tax law requires it.
  • Safety reports — kept with your name, number and email removed; a report about child safety, or one our staff escalate, keeps your number until 30 days after its case closes.
  • Any photo or message someone reported — kept for the reviewer until the case closes (30 days past the close for a child-safety or escalated report).
  • Your opt-in and opt-out history — kept permanently, with the number or address it applies to.
  • Anything held under a legal request or an intimate-image removal — until that closes.
  • A scrambled fingerprint of your phone number, never the number itself — kept permanently if we banned you; otherwise only while a block, a report that was open when you deleted, or an open legal request involves you. The record of which phones you used is deleted with your account.
  • Anything reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children — at least one year, because 18 U.S.C. § 2258A requires it.

If an open legal request names your account, you can delete it once that request closes. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Records your club holds

If you are a member of a club, the club keeps its own record of you under its own policy. Wisteria cannot delete it. You can ask the club directly from Messages.

Your subscription

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, because Apple or Google bills it. Cancel it yourself in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings — see Support.

Wisteria is published by Wisteria Social LLC, 26 W. Market St., Salt Lake City, UT 84101, United States. Questions about a deletion request go to admin@wisteriasocial.com.
