Our standards
Wisteria is a community platform for adults. Children are not permitted to use it, and child sexual abuse and exploitation have no place anywhere on our service. We prohibit, without exception:
- child sexual abuse material in any form, including photographs, drawings, animation, and computer- or AI-generated imagery;
- any content that sexualises a minor, including text and role-play that depicts or implies a sexual scenario involving a minor;
- grooming, enticement, or any attempt to contact or solicit a minor for sexual purposes;
- sextortion, and the trading, soliciting or advertising of child sexual abuse material;
- child sex trafficking and the facilitation of it;
- use of our service by anyone under 18.
Violations result in immediate and permanent removal from Wisteria. There is no appeal for child sexual exploitation.
Adults only
Wisteria is restricted to adults 18 and over. We rely on the age signals the app stores provide, on the date of birth you give us when you join, and on reports from members and from anyone else who sees something wrong. If we learn or reasonably believe that a member is under 18, we close the account and delete their information, except where the law requires us to preserve it. An account closed for this reason cannot be reopened.
How we detect this material
- Hash matching on every photo. Every photo uploaded to Wisteria, including photos sent in direct messages and group chats, is checked with Microsoft PhotoDNA before anyone else can see it. PhotoDNA compares the image against databases of known child sexual abuse material maintained by child protection organisations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, and industry hash-sharing programmes. A photo that cannot be checked is refused.
- Human review. A match to known child-abuse material is reported to NCMEC automatically. Banning the account is a decision a person on our safety team makes.
- Member reports. Reports are read by a person, and there is a dedicated child-safety reason in the app that is escalated immediately. Reports involving a minor are handled ahead of everything else.
This check compares images against a list of known illegal files. It does not read your conversations.
How to report
In the app. Every profile, message and photo has a report option. Choose Report and then the child-safety reason. You do not need to contact anyone outside Wisteria to make a report.
By email. Anyone, member or not, can write to admin@wisteriasocial.com.
Emergencies. If a child is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement by calling 911. You may also report directly to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertipline.org or 1-800-843-5678.
What we do when we find it
- We remove the content as soon as we have actual knowledge of it.
- We permanently ban the account, and take steps to prevent the person from registering again.
- We report to the NCMEC CyberTipline as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, which covers apparent child sexual abuse material, child sex trafficking and the enticement of a minor.
- We preserve the reported content and related records for at least one year, as federal law requires, stored securely and with access limited to authorised personnel.
- We cooperate with law enforcement and respond to valid legal process.
Compliance with the law
We comply with applicable child safety laws in the United States, including the reporting and preservation obligations in 18 U.S.C. § 2258A as amended by the REPORT Act. We also maintain a notice-and-removal process for non-consensual intimate imagery under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which anyone can use at wisteriasocial.com/remove without an account, and which is described in our Community Guidelines.
We review these standards at least once a year, and whenever our practices or the law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
